Mathematician Augustus De Morgan (later misnamed “Murphy” by a historian tripped up by auto-correct, probably) wrote on June 23, 1866: “The first experiment already illustrates a truth of the theory, well-confirmed by practice, that whatever can go wrong in parenthood will go wrong, all right, so always have plenty of wine on-hand.” Or something like that.
